The Peace River Riders Bicycle Club of Charlotte Co. Florida would like to cordially invite you to    Wheels & Wings III.  , WWIII.  This years event is on July 7th and it begins and ends at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s  in Punta Gorda Florida, wheels rollin’ at 8AM sharp.  Our event offers something for everyone. You can register  for a 15, 32 or 50 mile ride.  All three are laid out on the  friendly streets and country roads of Charlotte Co. Florida. . The early registration is $25 which will also get you a tee shirt. Club members can register for $15.00. “What’s that you say? You wanna be a club member? Well have I got a deal for you!  $60.00 will get  you a one year membership  PLUS OUR CLUB JERSEY, PLUS  WWIII for $15.00! ” No you’re not dreaming. Contact me or the Peace River Riders for details. The jersey is made by Canari and is pictured below.

We have a 50 mile ride instead of the traditional 62 miler due to the heat and humidity typical of South West Florida during July.  But let not your heart be troubled,   we’re planning plenty of SAG stops, and If  it’s a work out your interested in we offer a gentleman’s race. The race features a mass  start and covers ten miles of open country road. The course for the race is within the 50 mile ride. The racers will leave Beef ‘o’ Brady’s and  soft pedal about  7  miles to the starting point. There will be a Sag stop at the end. We’ve had this race each of the first two years so far and we have two different winners, both local riders who will be there again this year to defend / reclaim their title. The gentleman’s race does not imply that it’s for men only. On the contrary women have participated each year. A gentleman’s race implys that  in the event of a dead heat the winner will be declared by the other riders. There is talk of a recumbent race this year, same course, same everything. We have some very good bent riders in our midst and when approached about a race just for them their reaction was, “what’s a matter roadies, afraid”?

New this year is the SPEED TRAP.  Somewhere along the course the local police will set up a speed trap and if you can break the designated speed limit you will  receive an official citation suitable for framing. At this moment trap is set for 25 MPH.

The arrangements for our event are in full swing. As advertised our ride will have something for everyone. For those who want to take the 15 mile ride there will a mystery tour, scavenger hunt, or possibly a poker run.  Announcements will be made as decisions are finalized , so keep in touch.

Lunch will be  served back at Beef’ ‘O’ Brady’s. Hot Wings and beer are on the menu again or something else for those prefer a veggie dish. Stage 7 of the Tour de France will be on the tele.  Beef ‘O’ ‘Brady’s in Punta Gorda Florida continues to be a very good  anchor for our event.  The place has plenty of room to set up big tables, they’ve never run out of food and the beer is always cold. Best of all,  they get into the spirit of the Tour de France by helping with the ceremony to celebrate the race winner just like the tour does, pretty girls with flowers, a jersey, a stuffed animal and a kiss on the cheek.

If that’s not enough, well, as with all bike rides you get to spend a Saturday with some of the happiest people on earth, cyclists. If the past two years are any indication it’s gonna be HUGE!  All proceeds from this event go towards the Peace River Riders operational expenses. I hope to see you at our ride. You are always welcome to come ride with us. We love to tell cyclist that we ride 12 months out of the year. Thanks for reading my post  and as always your comments are  appreciated.
